Adobe Premiere Recommended Specs Mac



  • The tech specs page for Adobe’s new CS6 holds the system requirements for both Mac and Windows users. On the Apple side, Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard is the minimum OS requirement.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC is one of the best video editing tools on the market. To understand whether your PC or Mac can run the software, please check the minimum and recommended system requirements below.

We want to make Premiere Pro users aware of a very important support change coming to Premiere Pro CC. The next major version of Premiere Pro CC will only be compatible with Windows 10 (version 1709) and mac0S 10.12 or higher. This change eliminates support for: Windows 7; Windows 8.1; Windows 10 v1511 and v1607; Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan).

Your system must meet the minimum specifications to run Premiere Pro (see below). If you are considering hardware upgrades, see Optimizing your System for Premiere Pro and After Effects for more information.

Upcoming changes to operating system support

Effective in January 2021, new releases of the Creative Cloud video and audio applications will require macOS 10.14 (or later) or Windows 10 v1903 (or later).

Recommended specs for premiere pro

Premiere Pro 14.7 supports macOS 11.0 (Big Sur) on Intel CPUs. Native support for Apple M1 CPUs is not yet available but you can run Premiere Pro in Rosetta 2 emulation mode on Apple M1 devices. For more information, see Do Adobe apps work on Apple computers that use the M1 chip?

A MacBook Air is not going to give you the same level of performance of a MacBook Pro. The latter machine, as the name suggests, is specced out for professional creatives who use their computers for CPU-heavy tasks such as video editing and music production. That being said, Airs are still pretty powerful machines and – depending on how much strain you’re planning to put your computer under – they should perform reasonably well.

Some CPU-intensive tasks such as rendering and exporting finished projects may take a little while on a Macbook Air, but if you can live with that then this shouldn’t be a problem. In addition, actions such as scrubbing through footage can sometimes be a little bit laggy when running Premiere Pro on a MacBook Air, especially if your Air is working particularly hard.

If you’re looking to buy a laptop specifically for video editing, then the MacBook Air is definitely not the best option. That being said, if you already own an Air and are wondering whether it’s worth getting Premiere Pro to run on it, then your current laptop should handle the basics fine – just don’t expect lightning fast performance all the time!
